Last month, LEAF Canada announced the first annual LEAF Awards, to be presented at the 2018 Restaurants Canada Show February 25-27th in Toronto. This is an exciting opportunity for Canadian restaurateurs to be recognized for their commitment to the environment, the progress they’ve made, and the hard work they put into making their businesses as sustainable as possible. We hope you will help us spread the word about this great program. Janine Windsor who is the President of LEAF and founded the organization in 2009 had this to say about the development:
“We’re really excited about partnering with Restaurants Canada on the Eco-Innovation award, which is open to any food service facility in Canada. We’re a very grassroots program, so the opportunity this allows us to reach far and wide in the industry is incredible”.
There are four categories up for grabs: Greenest Restaurant, Greenest Facility over 10,000 square feet, Most Improved, Eco-Innovator of the Year. Winners will be announced at the Restaurants Canada Show in February in Toronto and receive a beautiful, hand-crafted award to display, and be promoted through social media.
Shanna Munro President and CEO of Restaurants Canada stated:
“Restaurants Canada is pleased to partner with LEAF to support their efforts to green the Canadian foodservice industry. The LEAF Awards are a great way to shine a light on companies that are making a difference for the planet while enhancing their business.”
LEAF is also working with Restaurants Canada on the Eco Pavilion, which will showcase sustainable products and innovations at the 2018 trade show. Windsor adds “We have some really exciting things planned to highlight the environmental movement in the industry, and my hope is that it will inspire others to think about their own sustainability journey and next steps, whether it’s something simple like eliminating plastic straws, or seeking certification.”
As a big fan of both LEAF and Restaurants Canada we are pleased to see this collaboration taking place to recognize our industry leaders. To learn more or enter for the Eco-Innovation award, visit LEAFme.org
